Geocache Description:


Time for the 3rd Annual Paddle, Bike, or Hike the Augusta Canal -- this year's event is being hosted by Pilgrimsprogress, Oddangles and Salutations. We invite all those who like to Paddle, Bike or Hike to attend this event. This year's event will be held in the afternoon instead of during the noon hour of the day. We will be launching at promptly 3:30 pm from the above posted coordinates. Please be sure and be on time -- being it an afternoon event we must ensure that all are out of the water and safe before nightfall.

This yearly event takes place at Savannah Rapids Pavilion and we ask that all park in the upper parking area. Please do not park below or around the launch area.



It will be the responsibility of each individual to take care of your mode of transportation to and from the Pavilion and takeout location which is 13th Street (coords will be listed in waypoint section of page). It will also be the responsibility of each person who does not own a personal watercraft to obtain their water vessel and ensure they are ready to launch at 3:30 promptly. The groups hosting of this event will not be responsible for anyone obtaining a vessel, paying for the vessel or means of transportation to and from point to point. However, any help provided from geocacher to geocacher would be appreciated. In the past, there has always been a good group effort to ensure that all made it to and from the Pavilion and back to their vehicles --- it is essential that we all work together to ensure that no one is left behind and all are accounted for before we all leave for the evening. In the past many have used AWOL (American Wilderness Outfitters) and are welcome to do so this time as well. I am sure they would be appreciative of the business and do believe they would continue to provide shuttle service as well. But again, this would be between the individual and AWOL. Coordinates for AWOL are listed in the waypoint section of this page.

To rent a vessel from AWOL, call 706-738-8500 and speak with Jim or Stacey.
Vessel rentals are $55.00 per person which includes equipment and shuttling.
Signed Waivers and Rental Fees must be paid in full at AWOL by Monday, August 21st.

For those who prefer the land to the water, the toe path provides a great means of traveling the canal as well. You should also be ready to start your trek at 2:30/3:00 pm to ensure enough time to be at the take out point around the same time as the kayakers.

For those who prefer to bike, the toe path provides as a great bike path as well. You should be ready to start around the same time as the kayakers to end up at the take out point along with the kayakers as well.

NO MOTOR BOATS OR SWIMMING ALLOWED IN THE CANAL! BE SURE AND BRING PLENTY OF WATER AND OTHER ESSENTIALS SUCH AS SUNSCREEN AND BUG SPRAY. ALL MUST HAVE A LIFE JACKET ON THE ENTIRE TIME YOU ARE ON THE WATER. KAYAKERS PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ADHERE TO THE LAWS OF BEING IN A WATER VESSEL AND HAVE ALL THE PROPER EQUIPMENT ON YOUR PERSON OR VESSEL.

There is a large parking lot across the street from Ryan's to park a vehicle with a trailer.
