This is the Second in a series exploring ghosts and hauntings in Pensacola.
Location is the original Escambia County Jailhouse and Courthouse. Built in 1911, public execution took place within these walls until July 31, 1920, the date Hosea Poole was hung from the gallows for murdering his brother. Many say he never left. Hosea is said to be the cause of many electrical disturbances such as lights turning on and off and elevators coming and going with doors opening and closing by themselves. It is also said Hosea moves props and personal items about the building. His dark shadowy figure has been seen by office workers and maintenance crew but when noticed quickly fades.
On the other side of the building where the courthouse was located lives another spector, that of a young girl about 10 or 11 years old wearing a Blue or Green 1920’s summer dress. People have seen her running and skipping down the halls then out of sight. Her giggling is also often heard. When the little girl’s presence is felt it is not described as angry or fearful but more curious and playful. How she came to reside here is a mystery.
Feel free to check out inside of building Monday thru Friday 10am to 5:30 pm. Many very fun and entertaining activites take place here. There is also a nice restaurant inside open 10am to 2pm. From the restaurant you can get a very good view of where the gallows were.
Cache is well cammoed and has room for trade. Please be stealthy as is muggle heavy and is a fairly large cache for such a location. Please inform me if cache appears to be damaged or log is getting full.
