Resident Evil Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

BriGuyNY: This cache has gone through a variety of iterations over the years. Originally, it was inspired by Highland Ranger; a tobacco can blending in with other debris near the old Nepera factory. Security had me move it further away, to this old abandoned road leading toward the back side of the factory, as you can see in the photo gallery. However, a number of years ago, the building was completely demolished, and the site has been abandoned once again.

In this second location, I originally used the same tobacco can, but it washed away. I then switched it up to be a really fun container. It was a PVC tube, blocked off in the middle, with a cage on each end. One side had a pill bottle with the virus (red) while the other had a pill bottle for the anti-virus (blue). If you chose wrong, you got a message saying you’re dead [:)]. This fit perfectly with the Resident Evil theme, if you’ve ever seen the movie.

Unfortunately, something went sideways in recent times here. I was told that it looked like a throw down might be here, but also that both colored containers were here too. With a recent report of trouble, I gave it a look, but only found the blue anti-virus container… nothing else. It was in bad shape, so I removed it.

I don’t feel like building another custom container, since this one doesn’t seem to have much interest any more and the abandoned road is, well, very much abandoned and overgrown now. Still a cool area to explore, though it’s time to shut this one down.

It was fun to read the logs and do something a little different here. I’m sure Alice would have enjoyed this challenge too 😛. Many thanks to everyone who visited and shared their stories of what they had to overcome during their quest to escape Umbrella Corp alive ☠️.

Geocache Description:

A tribute cache to my Upstate NY brethren who showed me the best old industrial hiding techniques I have ever seen. This one is for you guys. Thanks.

Resident Evil (aka "Biohazard") is a Japanese video game series based on horror and survival that inspired an entire line of comic books, novels, and movies. My favorite are the movies, and what better way to begin your movie quest on the nearby rail trail with another movie cache?

Here in front of you we have something that compares almost directly to the plot...

In the movie there is secret underground testing community called "The Hive" which was part of a monopoly corporation, "Umbrella". One day there was an issue with a testing vial that broke inside a lab room due to a careless technician. Sensing danger and the spread of infection, the security computer (Alice) locked down the entire facility, killing every worker inside with a deadly gaseous substance. With infection spreading through the bodies of the deceased, they all come back to life as zombies. Days later the Hive was then opened by the public to figure out what went on down there. When open, well, you can probably guess what happened next...

Anyway, what you are looking at in real life is an abandoned industrial/chemical plant called Nepera. Within this facility, the chemicals Pyridine and B3 were mass produced. Unfortunately, there were problems over the years with multiple environmental issues in nearby streams and gas leaks that literally left a stench hanging over the town, causing some residents to be hospitalized on a variety of occasions. The facility was permanently shut down and cleared of all chemicals in 2005, never having been touched since. The property is off limits from the public, as is the road beyond the facility which goes up to the Arden House.

What you are looking for is a typical cache container for this abandoned environment. If/when you find it, please replace it just as you found it in classic Upstate NY style. Living up there for 3 years and beginning my caching days within a depressed industrial city was very inspirational.

This is a difficult cache, so... GOOD LUCK!

Congrats to LabRat101 on FTF!
