Pontile Ostia
Il primo Pontile fu edificato contemporaneamente allo stabilimento Roma,ed era costruito con traverse di faggio. Sostituito da uno nuovo nel 1940 e ribattezzato dal regime fascista del Littorio, si erigeva su palificazione di cemento e balaustre di travertino e si protendeva nel mare per 125 metri terminando con una terrazza di 20 metri di diametro. La pavimentazione era di travertino alternato a pietra di Bagnoregio, mentre a metà del pontile si trovano quattro rampe a mare per l’attacco delle imbarcazioni. Nel 1943 i tedeschi, per timore di sbarchi militari, lo resero impraticabile spezzandolo in due punti. Dopo questa parziale demolizione i vecchi elementi di palificazione furono riutilizzati per costruire un nuovo pontile nel 1956.
Il Pontile nel 1940
Nel 1916 prende corpo l'immagine di Ostia come località balneare, sul modello di altre stazioni marittime sorte in quegli anni. Un progetto realizzato nel 1928. Agli inizi degli anni 30 si conferma il "gemellaggio", fino allora non formalizzato, con la capitale e Ostia diventa un quartiere di Roma. Nel 1961, si porta a compimento una successiva divisione che è arrivata fino a noi: Lido di Ponente, Lido di Levante e Castel Fusano.
Dire mare a Roma, è dire Ostia. Questo Lido, infatti è il centro balneare più vicino alla capitale e quello che, da sempre, gode della simpatia dei romani. Le tradizioni che legano queste spiagge alla capitale si perdono nelle radici stesse della città, basti pensare agli scavi di Ostia Antica. E per i nostalgici, per quelli che corrono con la mente ai mitici anni 60, Ostia è l'altra faccia, quella estiva, della "dolce vita". Ostia come località balneare è piuttosto recente, figlia del nostro secolo. Nel 1904 la Pro Roma marittima avanza l'ipotesi della costruzione di un porto fluviale, un'idea che verrà successivamente accantonata.
Al mare ad Ostia c'è sempre gente, non importa la stagione. Ma è anche un punto di incontro serale per chi ha voglia di allontanarsi dalla città. Di stabilimenti balneari ce ne sono molti così come alberghi, ristoranti e club nautici.
