Edna Malefacta lived in the Roman city of Glevum. When the city came under attack by marauding Britons, she hid her valuables and fled, never to return.
Being cautious, she sent a coded message to her two cohorts Gordonius and Mzebongatum telling them where she had hidden it. But the letter never arrived.
However this message survived and may yet reveal the cache to a modern-day treasure-seeker.
