Geocache Description:

Stony Tarn lies at just under 1000ft on the north side of Eskdale. Like its lower neighbour Eel Tarn, access is best from the Woolpack Inn. After Eel Tarn the path become much more indistinct. The tarn has an area of 3.3 acres and a depth of 16 foot. The name is pretty much a case of what it says on the tin. The tarn is located in a rough bowl and has much more of a mountain enviroment feel about it than Eel Tarn. Seekers of solitude can count themselves unlucky if they do not have it to themselves.

The cache is a small box containing only a log book. No tat ('Hurrah' that chap with the dogs cheers.) Room for small trackables only.

Cache placed with the permission of the National Trust)
