Geocache Description:

Nahcotta Tidelands Interpretive Site.

On the Willapa Bayshore of the Long Beach Peninsula, Nahcotta is an important oyster center. Oyster dredging on the bay dates back to the mid-19th century and huge mounds of oyster shells line the bayfront. Established in 1888 as the terminus of a narrow-gauge railroad linking the bay with Ilwaco on the Columbia River, it’s name commemorates a Chinook chief who befriended early settlers.

The cache is located at the Nahcotta Tidelands Interpretive Site. Take the time to read the information signs.
1. Remember there’s a face of a family behind every farmed oyster.
2. The estuary filters, shelters, and stores life.
3. Willapa Bay is a working garden
4. Mudflat animals filter, swim, scurry, suck and siphon.
5. We all live downstream
6. Surprising shell fish tales.

Please replace the cache exactly as you found it.

11/28/11 NOTE: A Recent wind storm took out the hiding spot. My Ocean Park "staff" relocated the cache about 10 ft. away toward the tide side.
