in our disclaimer.
Cache is small and can hold geocoins. The difficulty level is low due to the fact that it is basically a walk-up cache, but the terrain is slightly higher because of the elevation, even though the path is concrete. Please replace cache as found to prevent accidental finds.
The cache is hidden in Gold Run Park. Named after the creek that ran through this area. In 1876, this was a booming gold mining area. At one time, it was it's own town. Then it was amalgamated under George Hearst with the Homestake Mining Company. This area held Homestakes Gold Mill. Here gold was leached from the rock using various methods. This was the actual place where mined rock (gold ore), became gold bars.
There are informative boards along the walk (some are missing the information) and actual pieces of equipment used at the site. The Homestake closed in 2002, and the park was dedicated in 2005. If you're interested in the history of Lead and the wonder of obtaining gold from ore, then this is a must visit park.
