Lost cabin Search
About 20 years ago I found a hidden cabin in one of these valleys. Today I went to see if I could find it. The first valley was the wrong one, but it was an interesting place in my opinion. Limited vistas, but this transition from sagebrush to montane life zones will take you through a long list of wild flowers and herbs in the short (0.3 mile if I remeber correctly) hike. The road to get to the start of the hike is narrow, and should have good clearance, but I think most 2wd pickups would make it OK. I ran into to several big puddles of water in this area but they have hard bottoms. Not a good road for a vette or a Harley ! There is no trail, but you can walk down the pipeline road about 0.1 and then shoot straight to the cache or walk the pipeline road to stream, follow the stream till it hits another (porter creek) and then up that one. The only trails are built and maintained by coopertive agreement between the deer, elk, moose and bears. The coyotes use them but don't help much with maintainence. Quiet, shady, and full of mosquitos in July. There are a number of tiny falls, just like most little mountain streams, and tha cache is sitting under three Aspen logs not far from one of these falls.
