Happy Birthday Reini Schlosskirche St.Martin ein Platz für Genießer!

Schloss St.Martin:

Das Schloss St. Martin ist ein Schloss im Grazer Stadtteil Straßgang.
St. Martin scheint bereits in der ersten Hälfte des 11. Jahrhunderts urkundlich auf und ist seit 1144 als Propstei des Stiftes Admont nachgewiesen. 1557 wurde es zu einem Renaissanceschloss umgebaut. Die Innenausstattung der separat stehenden Schlosskirche aus den Jahren 1738–1740 ist eines der Hauptwerke von Joseph Stammel. Im 19. Jahrhundert gehörte der groß angelegte Park Bei den Weihern (als ad Wiarn bereits seit 1185 nachgewiesen) rund um die Quelle des Bründlbaches zum Schloss, die mit zahlreichen Teichen, Alleen und Grotten gestaltet war. Seit 1914 wird das Gebäude als Volksbildungsheim genutzt. Seit 1936 ist es im Besitz des Landes Steiermark.

Schlosskirche St.Martin:
Die Kirchengründung St. Martin zählt zu den ältesten von Graz. Ein erster Sakralbau wird bereits im 10. oder 9. Jahrhundert vermutet. Der Besitz wechselte von den Aribonen zum Erzbistum Salzburg und schließlich zum Benediktinerstift Admont, das den Bauauftrag für die Errichtung der heute bestehenden Kirche erteilte. Der Bildhauer Josef Stammel wurde beauftragt, den Hochaltar im Barockstil zu gestalten. Der ansonsten schlichte Bau wird von diesem Kunstwerk dominiert. Die Seitenaltäre sind der Heiligen Familie und der heiligen Barbara geweiht. Heute werden hier gerne Taufen und Hochzeiten abgehalten!

Das Gebiet rund um das Schloss dient heute der Grazer Bevölkerung als Naherholungsgebiet.

Tipp: Der Naturlehrpfad und der Kinderspielplatz wurden im Sommer 2010 neu renoviert und laden Familien zum Verweilen ein. Weiteres kann man sich auch sportlich am Bäderlaufweg oder per Fahrrad Richtung Plabutsch betätigen.

The area around the palace now serves the population of Graz as a recreational area.
