From 1920 to 1936, there was the Shochiku Kamata studio here.
"Kamata Koushinkyoku" ('Koushinkyoku' is 'March' in Japanese) is the Playwright/Stage/Novel works of "Tsuka Kouhei". Furthermore, it was filmed in collaboration with Shochiku and Kadokawa.
Original "Kamata Koushinkyoku" was a song of the Shochiku Kamata studio. It was used as the theme song of the movie, and is used used as departure-melody at JR Kamata station.
Of course The "Kamata Koushinkyoku" movie is set in the Shochiku Kamata studio, but the main episode of of the story "- fell down the stairs -" is based on the true story at the Toei Kyoto studio, so the story is in today's (Today is today or just before the peak period of cinema) at Toei Kyoto, and the movie was taken in Kyoto directed by Kinji Fukasaku who grew up in Toei.
We can imagine that some conflict ware about Shochiku/Toei and Kamata/Kyoto, so they produced altenate "The movie about Shochiku Kamata" later.
They produced over 1,000 films at Shochiku Kamata. The first talkie-cinema was taken here.
However, there ware many noise from small factories in Ota Ward, this studio was forced to move to Ofuna in Kanagawa Prefecture.
The site was sold to a fragrance factory. And now, Here are "Nissei Aroma Square", "Aprico - A hall of Ota Ward -" and small park. "Aroma Square" is named after the fragrance factory.
"Tsuka Kouhei" died last weekend (2010/07/10). I pray for him.

1920年から1936年までの間、ここに松竹の蒲田撮影所がありました。
『蒲田行進曲』は、劇作家・演出家・小説家の「つか こうへい」氏の舞台作品・戯曲・小説で、角川・松竹共同で映画も製作されました。そもそもの（音楽としての）『蒲田行進曲』は、松竹蒲田撮影所の所歌でした。この軽快なメロディは映画のテーマ曲として使われ、現在もJR蒲田駅の発車メロディとして使われています。
タイトルの『蒲田行進曲』が示すのはもちろん松竹の蒲田撮影所のことなのですが、これらの作品のストーリー～「新撰組」の映画撮影に伴う人間群像、特に実話を基にしたクライマックスの「階段落ち」～は、東映京都撮影所に設定され、時代設定も現代（若しくはちょっと前の映画・時代劇の全盛期）に設定されています。
映画の撮影は松竹ではなく東映京都で行われ、東映出身の深作欣二がメガホンをとりました。この”松竹・東映”、”蒲田・京都”について松竹側に色々と思うところがあったようで、後に松竹によって「紛れもなく”松竹蒲田”の映画」である『キネマの天地』が製作されました。
それはともかく、ここ松竹蒲田撮影所では計1000本を超す映画が撮影されました。日本初のトーキー（注：トーキーとは音声付の映画で、トーキー以前は無音声でした）もここで撮影され、日本におけるトーキー時代はこの地で幕を開けました。しかし当時の（今もそうですが）蒲田の周辺は中小の町工場が多く、その騒音がトーキーの撮影に支障をきたすために、撮影所は神奈川県の大船に移転を余儀なくされました。
撮影所の大船移転後の跡地は香料の会社に売却され、香料の工場になりました。さらに現在は「ニッセイ アロマスクエア」と、大田区の区民ホール「アプリコ」、付属する公園などからなる”アロマスクエア街区”になっています。”アロマ”はここが香料の工場であったことにちなんでいます。
公園内に映画『キネマの天地』で使用された松竹橋のレプリカが設置されています。また、アプリコのエントランスには松竹橋の実物の親柱が設置されており、地下1階には松竹蒲田撮影所のジオラマが展示されています。
