Geocache Description:

Klein cache by die 5-Boog-brug naby Watervalboven.

Small cache at the 5-Arch bridge near Waterval Boven.

For English, see further on.

Hierdie pragtige brug is in 1963 as 'n nasionale monument verklaar.

Waarskuwing: Wees asseblief versigting - hier was onlangs 'n ongelukkige insident, waartydens daar by 'n motor ingebreek is.

The sturdy Five-Arch Bridge was declared a national monument in 1963. It was constructed of dressed stone cut in Italy. The bridge carried the famous "Eastern Line" or "Oosterlijn" railway track across the precipitous gorge of the "Dwaalheuwel Spruit". It opened to rail traffic on 20 June 1894 and the rack rail ran along the bridge until it was no longer needed.

The bridge was then converted to a road bridge and served as such for many years until the new tunnel was constructed next to the NZASM Tunnel (about 1.5kms away), and the present road was completed.

Warning: Please be careful - somebody broke into a car here recently.
