Geocache Description:

It ain't exactly Mount Everest, but it's Louisiana's highest point.

Located in wooded Bienville Parish, about 8.5 miles south of Arcadia, is Louisiana's highest point, the third-lowest of the fifty states.

Known as Driskill Mountain, named after the family that owns the land, a more accurate name is Driskill Hill.

There are competing ideas of what defines a mountain, including several attributes, characteristics, local customs and traditions. In America, one idea is a mountain must be 990+ feet above its surroundings (relief). Driskill Mountain is <990 feet.

Here's a visual reference with international landmarks.

The summit is primarily composed of quartz sands from the Cockfield Formation. The mountain was created by the erosion of unlithified Paleogene sediment, or softer sediments that have not transformed to stone.

Based on current scientific theory, the Paleogene period spanned roughly between 23 and 65 MYA. Historically, the Paleogene is the geological period between the ages of dinosaurs and the first apes.

To access the Driskill Mountain Trailhead and Driskill Memorial Cemetery, you may park at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, about a mile southwest of the LA-797 and LA-502 junction.

The summit hike is about a mile with a slight elevation gain. Follow the markers, as part of the trail is on private property, but open to the public. The property owners erected a wooden structure at the summit.

For highpointing enthusiasts, there is an ammunition canister containing a log at the summit.

Please submit your answers to the following questions:

1) What is the elevation atop Driskill Mountain?

2) Describe the rock formation at the summit or what is the common term for it?

OPTIONAL: Photographs of yourself and/or surroundings are met with giddy, earthcache-geek excitement.
