remaining original wells that can be still found in Wellington. The
well was covered over when piped water became available and was
only revealed when the Wellington bypass was constructed
This well was put in to supply water to the cottages in this
area, the cottages are now being moved from the current location to
across the road. The well was situated at the back of the cottages
and the bricks that were supplied to build this well were hand made
by Tonks. The Tonks family opened their own brick work which
supplied Wellington and was also shipped around New Zealand. The
site where this monument is was constructed from bricks that were
found around Wellington that were originated from Tonks'
factory.
