Hike is steep but short. Beautiful Colorado backcountry.
The trail, campgrounds and cave are all on public lands. Take Co Rd 8 from Meeker to Co Rd 17 or from New Castle, take the New Castle/Buford Rd.
Our family has been enjoying this hike and exploring this cave since the 50's. The cave is a non-guided tour adventure so ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK. The hike is steep but short and the cave is cold and muddy. There is a 'map' of the interior of the cave and a description of some of the landmarks inside. The caving requires a climb down a 40ish foot ladder and a 15ft rope descent to get to the underground spring..but for the adventuring soul...its worth it. When placing this cache, I escorted a 6 year old boy down to the spring but he definitely had a lot of help. (I basically carried him down the rope) But it is definitely do-able. Bring warm clothes and flashlights.
For those not interested in caves or tight places, the scenery is beautiful and the hikes in the area are legendary.
The cache is placed very near the cave entrance but the GPS was bouncing around so the coords might be off.
Enjoy.
