Charters Towers has had a long, prolific history in mining. It's how the town got started way back in the day. This industry is ongoing today. The resurgence of mining in the area came about in the 1980's when gold was found at Mt Leyshon to the South East of the town.
The mining boom once again breathed life in to the town, creating numerous jobs that brought a new workforce and their families here to live.
This site is called the "Stockholm Pit " and it sits on land oonce owned by The Blackjack MIne which as the crow flies is only about 2 km away. It is now part of the Citigold mining leases.
The hide is near the pit but not on the land it occupies. There are " NO TRESPASSING " signs up. Enjoy the views of the western side of Towers Hill and the Tableland type feature to the west of your location.
