Najac Castle / Le

It seems that the film canister ist broken - if you come to Najac,
please be so kind to replace it since I won't get here in the next
future. It would be a pity to archive this cache, so if anyone can
help me, please do so!
Château de Najac or the royal fortress of Najac is located in
Najac, in the Aveyron département, in southern France.
The castle was built in 1253 by the villagers on the orders of
Alphonse de Poitiers, brother of Saint Louis, on the site of an
older castle (a square tower) built in 1100 by Bertrand of St
Gilles, son of Raymond IV, count of Toulouse.
Najac has been near major events of history: the first English
occupation, the Albigensian Crusade, the Hundred Years' War, the
imprisonment of the Knights Templar, the peasants' revolts, and the
French Revolution.
After having been used as a stone quarry in the 19th century, Najac
was saved by the Cibiel family, who own it and open it to visitors.
The Château de Najac is one of a group of 23 castles in Aveyron who
have joined together to provide a tourist itinerary as the Route
des Seigneurs du Rouergue. The castle has been listed as a monument
historique by the French Ministry of Culture since 1925.

l'Aveyron.
Le château a été construit en 1253 par les villageois sur l'ordre
d'Alphonse de Poitiers, frère de Saint-Louis, sur le site d'un
ancien chateau (une tour carré) construite en 1100 par Bertrand of
St Gilles, fils de Raymond IV, comte de Toulouse.
Najac a connu plusieurs événements historiques: la première
occupation anglaise, la croisade des Albigeois, la Guerre de Cent
ans, l'emprisonnement des Templiers, la révolte des paysans et la
révolution française.
Après avoir servi de carrière de pierre au 19ième siècle, Najac a
été sauvé par la famille Cibiel, propriétaire du site, qui l'ouvrit
au public. Le château de Najac fait parti d'un groupe de 23
châteaux de l'Aveyron sur le parcours de la route touristique
appelée la Route des Seigneurs du Rouergue. Le château est classé
monument historique depuis 1925.
Funny Story / Un histoire amusante
I came to Najac during my holiday in France. As it is such a nice
castle I thought it was a pity that there was no cache. During my
explorations I discovered this small trail and followed it to find
another nice view on the castle and the ruins of some old
buildings. The perfect spot for a cache!
The next day I returned with a cache to put it there. When I
reached the spot and grabbed some stones I thought would give a
nice hiding place - I found a box there! It was full of water and
some other things and looked like a cache! Curiously I opended the
box to find something like a cache note - only that it was not a
cache note but from some other game: http://www.cistes.net. Very
similar to geocaching, though, but I had never heard about
it.
Anyhow, the people of that game had chosen the same spot to hide
there treasure as I had! Strange things happen ... ;o)
Je suis venu à Najac pendant mes vacances. Le château étant très
joli, j'ai pensé qu'il était dommage qu'il n'y ait pas de
cache.
Pendant mes explorations, j'ai découvert ce petit sentier que j'ai
suivi jusqu'à trouver une vue magnifique sur le château et les
ruines d'autres anciens bâtiments. Le spot parfait pour une
cache.
Le jour suivant, j'y suis retourné avec une boîte pour la placer.
Quand j'ai atteint le spot et retourné quelques pierres à la
recherche de la place idéale, j'ai trouvé une boîte ! Elle était
pleine d'eau et de petits objets, elle ressemblait à une
cache.
J'ai ouvert la boîte par curiosité et j'ai trouvé une sorte de
logbook, ce n'était pas un logbook de géocache mais celui d'un
autre jeu : les cistes (http://cistes.net). Un jeu de chasse au
trésor dont je n'avais jamais entendu parlé.
Le placeur de ce jeu avait choisi le même spot que moi pour placer
son trésor. Des choses étonnantes arrivent ...;o)

The Cache / La cache
You don't have to enter the castle to find the cache (but I highly
recommend it as it is very nice). Coming from the village of Najac,
walk up to the castle and pass the entrance. Then you will soon see
a small trail leaving the main path. Walk up that path and it will
lead you to the cache site. I did the trail with sandals but good
shoes are recommended and you should not go there if it is wet as
you have to get over some rocks that might get very slippery.
The cache is not the small box at the bottom of the old wall -
that's the "wrong" one. You'll find my cache (a film canister) very
close by. Use the spoiler if you are not sure where to look. There
is no pen in the cache so you have to bring one.
Vous n'avez pas besoin de rentrer dans le château pour trouver la
cache (mais je le recommande vivement car cela vaut le coup).
En venant du village de Najac, allez jusqu'au château et traversez
l'entrée. Vous trouverez alors rapidement un petit sentier quittant
le sentier principal. Suivez le et il vous conduira à la
cache.
J'ai parcouru ce sentier avec des sandales mais de bonnes
chaussures sont recommandées. Il est préférable de ne pas venir par
temps humide car il est nécessaire de traverser des rochers qui
peuvent être très glissants.
La cache n'est pas la petite boîte au pied du vieux mur - ce n'est
pas la "bonne". Vous trouverez ma cache (boite de pellicule photo)
à proximité. Utilisez la photo spoiler si besoin. Il n'y a pas de
stylo dans la cache donc apportez le vôtre.
