Vila Herbestain predstavlja tip odlicne primestne vile iz druge polovice 19.stoletja. Med lastniki se od konca stoletja do konca druge svetovne vojne omenjajo baron von Ritter, Josef Eder in Maria Anna von Herberstein in Proskau. Po prvem lastniku je vila dobila prvotno ime – Vila Ritter, nato so jo poimenovali Vila Neu Schalleg, danes pa ji recemo Vila Herberstein. Ob koncu vojne, leta 1918 je vila namrec prešla v last grofice von Herberstein in Proskau iz znamenite rodbine Herbersteinov, ki se v virih omenja že v 13. stoletju. V casu priselitve grofice v Velenje, je rodbina Herberstein imela v lasti posestva v Gradcu, na Dunaju, v Liebochovicah, pri nas pa na Ptuju, v Vurberku in Hrastovcu. Ob obisku Vile Vas bo ob vhodu pozdravila majhna stalna razstava, ki s fotografijami, listinami in z besedo razkriva zanimivo in skrivnostno zgodbo grofice Marie Anne Herberstein, zadnje prebivalke vile do konca 2. svetovne vojne. Po groficini smrti je stavbo po dobrih dveh desetletjih opravljanja razlicnih dejavnosti v njej, od kmetijske zadruge pa do doma ostarelih, pred propadom rešilo Gorenje, ki jo je v celoti restavriralo.
