Geocache Description:

Welcome to West Howell or Fleming Cemetery. Located in section 17 of Howell Township, Livingston County.

Although the sign in front of the cemetery says different, this burial ground was laid out in 1850 on property owned by Abraham Van Nest. The first burial was that of Ebinezer Damon, a veteran of the War of 1812 and one of the early settlers of the area. The cemetery is host to many of the area's early settlers and has long filled to capacity.
A half mile south of the cemetery is the remnants of Fleming, or Six Corners. It's first settler was Clement Stebbens who came here in 1835 and opened the only public house on the Grand River trail between Howell and what was to become Fowlerville. Although it is now just a point on some maps, at one time Fleming boasted a Post Office, train station, and Methodist Church, as well as a school, which is still standing and in it's early days rivaled Howell in size and services offered.
You're looking for a small camo'd Lock n Lock.
The "SQ" in the cache name above signifies Spirit Quest, a project by the Northwest Ohio Geocachers to distinguish those caches that are set in cemeteries and memorial gardens. This cache is part of that series created by NWOGEO members to highlight cemeteries or memorial gardens in the area. Please be respectful of the area, and observe their rules and posted hours which are typically sunrise to sunset.
