Geocache Description:

Champex is a beautiful mountain village built around a lake at an altitude of 1500m. The village can be accessed by car or bus from Orsières or Matigny up windy mountain roads which takes around 20 minutes. Finding this cache involves a 30minute stroll around the beautiful lake at Champex collecting information that will give you the co-ordinates of the cache site.

An ideal cache for a relaxed walk with friends or to keep the children amused. The path around the lake is flat and suitable for a buggy.

The walk starts at the well just south of the main village and ends at the Catholic church at the southern tip of the lake. The cache is located nearby. The co-ordinates are for item 1 below, the start of the walk.

1. Just south of the main village is a decorative well. Alongside is a plaque dedicated to the guide Maurice Crettex.
A = the third digit from the dates 18A2 - 1948.

2. Walking north there is a set of yellow walking signs next the the pedalo cabin.
B = the first digit of the number of minutes to Arpette

3. Continue through the village, after you pass the Club Alpin there is a statue of a Marmotte.
C = the last digit on the nearest manhole cover 15 - C

4. Continue your walk until you reach the tennis courts opposite the Glacier hotel. Above your head is a sign telling you how long it has been established.

5. Turn left to continue your walk around the lake. After 100m you will see a sign on your right entitled "SKI DE FOND A CHAMPEX LAC".

6. Continue on the path around the lake. After 100m you will see a sign on your right about the "LE BAS-MARAIS"

7. Staying on the path continue for 150m and on your right you will see a church up on the hill.
G = how many words are written above the door?

8. After another 100m you will pass through a children's play park and find another sign explaining about the fish and birds on the lake.
H = How many pictures of fish are named on the board?

9. Continuing on the path for another 60m you will find a series of wooden poles, part of the Parcourvita.
J = how many wooden poles are there altogether?

10. 200m further on you will come across a sluice gate that channels the lake water down to Orsières for hydro electric generation.
K = how many spokes on the metal wheel.

11. Stay on the path around the lake and after another 130m you will see a wooden statue of a fox opposite a path rising to your right. Climb up the path to the car park above and turn right walking up to the Catholic church. If you find the path too steep you can continue around the lake to the garage, and take the road to the left of the garage into the car park.

The Church has beautiful stained glass windows and wall decorations inside by Francis Boson a local artist.
