Geocache Description:

Town Pound 1821 parking for 2 cars.

This cache is one of a series of caches to show some of the historic places in Bow.

In 1768 at the Town Meeting, the citizens voted to build a town pound to pen any wayward hogs or cows on the east side of White Rock Hill Road. This pound was replaced in 1790 by a second one and in 1821 by a third on the west slope of Pond Hill. This cache is located near the walls of this later pound that are still standing a few hundred feet east of the Bow Community Baptist Church.

The Town Pound was used by the "hog constable" to corral loose hogs and cattle. The constable was to ensure that loose animals were not able to eat unprotected grass and vegetation. Hogs especially could cause excessive damage do to there nature of rooting up plants.
Do not disturb the stones of the foundation, no cache there!
