Placed in the church yard of the Poplar Grove United Church.
The building of the present Poplar Grove United Church (originally Presbyterian) takes us back to the turn of the century when stones were gathered from as far away as Lansdowne and taken to the church site during the winter of 1901. Nils Johnson built the stonework and Duprau of Grenfell was the carpenter. The lime for the building was donated by Joe Bird who got the free help of a night fireman for a week during the burning of the kiln, and the church was plastered by Frank Apperly. Mr. E. Taylor chiseled "1901" on the date stone which was above the door until a bolt of lightning in 1953 damaged the gable badly and the stone was smashed when it fell. The first service in the new church was held in December 1902 just before Christmas.
The church was closed in 1970 and, from 1971 to the present, annual services are held on the third sunday in June. The church is open for visitors in the summer and for weddings and christenings.
Please stop into the church and sign the guest book.
