Holtet is the Norwegian side of the border, Vassbotten is the Swedish side.
Many country folk from Sweden would pass Holtet on their way to Halden when Norway was forced into union with Sweden in 1814. Holtet has been a customs station up until late 1980s, but now it's just an empty house.
The shop at Vassbotten was opened in 1892. 5000 soldiers was stationed here during WW2, and business was good. In addition, many refugees took the route over Vassbotten as they fled Norway during the same war. Unfortunately, the shop closed just before Christmas 2011.
The cache itself is placed almost exactly on the border. It is a small box, and the original content is a log book, info sheet, pencil, bouncing ball, rubber hair band, pencil sharpener, flashing necklace and FTF pin.
Please park by the closed down shop/gas station on the Swedish side of the border.
