This cache is located in the area known as Hook's Point, a once thriving settlement in the mid 1800's.
This settlement originated when Isaac Hook and his brother, James, came to the area in 1851. There were only two other settlements in the area at that time, Homer and Fort Dodge. Isaac built and opened a tavern and a hotel. In 1958, the first murder in the county occurred in his tavern. In 1869, there were 100 people there and a Post Office, two stores, a Blacksmith shop, a Sawmill, a Grist mill, and a physician.
Hopes of a railroad running from Montana, better known as Boone, up the Des Moines River on the east side and through Hook's Point and Homer, would keep this settlement growing. Unfortunately, the railroad ran from Jewel Junction to Dayton and caused the death of Hook's Point.
All that remains today is the cemetery.
