Geocache Description:

An easy driveby cache with excellent views of the Brough of Birsay and the causeway linking it to the mainland. There is a virtual cache on the Brough of Birsay that cannot be reached at high tide as the causeway is covered by the sea. Please take care to check the tide times if you decide to cross to the Brough!

A great place to visit particularly when the weather is stormy!

The earliest settlement on the Brough, which is well worth a visit is thought to date from the fifth century AD, perhaps Christian missionaries. By the seventh century it was a Pictish stronghold, and by the ninth century had been taken over, and built over, by the Norse.

The cache is a 35mm film canister with log and pencil.
