This Buffalo Niagara Region Seaway Trail Cache is located near the mouth of the Buffalo River at Lake Erie in the Times Beach Nature Preserve.
This cache is a 3 part puzzle cache which will require you to visit informational signs and bird viewing areas within the nature preserve. All legs can be found in close proximity to established trails and/or boardwalks and there is no need to bushwhack to successfully locate any leg or the final. There has been a bumper crop of stinging nettle growing in the preserve this year which is an even better reason to stick to the trails.
Now the important stuff; after arriving at the posted coords you should be standing in close proximity to two information signs. To reach stage two simply supplement the correct information into the following coordinates……
N 42 52.4AB W078 53.1CD
A = Numbers of letters in the name of the flyway described and depicted in the information sign “Flocking to Times Beach.”
B = In 1910 Times Beach was home to 1(B)50 squatters
C = In 1797 The Holland Land Company purchased 1.(C) million acres in Western New York.
D = Times Beach has (D) habitat zones.
Your GPSr should lead you to one of three bird viewing areas within the preserve once you have entered the correct coordinates. Follow the trails to the next location. Upon arrival at the proper bird viewing area you will note that there are 8 distinct wooden panels with ports in them for viewing wildlife. Facing the panels from the boardwalk mentally number them from 1 to 8 from left to right and complete the following calculations to locate the final ammo can and punch your ticket.
N 42 52.4EF W 078 52.9GH
E = Number of viewing ports in panel #5 + the number of viewing ports in panel #1
F= Number of viewing ports in panel #7 – the number of viewing ports in panel #8
G = Number of viewing ports in panel #6
H = Number of viewing ports in Panel #3 – the number of viewing ports in panel #2
A correct solution entered into your GPSr will lead you to the final cache which should be an easy find for most.
