The Misty Mountains were a huge and dangerous mountain chain
that divided the lands of Eriador and Rhovanion from J. R. R.
Tolkien's The Hobbit, Its length was about 700 miles and some of
the peaks were as high as 18,000 feet. There were only a few
passes, one of them the High Pass which the company decided to use
but which was now inhabited by Orcs. These imprisoned the Dwarves
and Bilbo, who were then rescued by Gandalf. But Bilbo got lost and
there, in the deepest root of the mountains, he surprisingly found
a golden ring and met a strange, nasty creature by the name of
Gollum.
