Geocache Description:

The Misty Mountains were a huge and dangerous mountain chain that divided the lands of Eriador and Rhovanion from J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, Its length was about 700 miles and some of the peaks were as high as 18,000 feet. There were only a few passes, one of them the High Pass which the company decided to use but which was now inhabited by Orcs. These imprisoned the Dwarves and Bilbo, who were then rescued by Gandalf. But Bilbo got lost and there, in the deepest root of the mountains, he surprisingly found a golden ring and met a strange, nasty creature by the name of Gollum.

The Hobbit is the story of Bilbo Baggins, a simple, respectable little person who is content with his sleepy life in the Shire until an old wizard and thirteen dwarves hijack him for a grand adventure to slay a dragon and win back a lost treasure, forcing him to grow out of his comfortable little world. Along the way he encounters merry elves, ferocious trolls, wicked goblins, and other fantastic characters and creatures before coming face to face with the vile dragon himself. The Hobbit is the prelude to The Lord Of The Rings movies, with two new movies scheduled for 2011 - 2013.

J. R. R. Tolkien's, The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, produced by New Line Cinema and released in three installments as The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002), and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003).

The Lord of the Rings trilogy starts from the quiet beginnings in the Shire, then ranges across Middle-earth. The story centers on the Ring of Power made by the Dark Lord Sauron, and follows the courses of the War of the Ring. The Lord of the Rings has created many characters such as Hobbits, Elves, Dwarves, Wizards, Orcs and Ents.

The Shire is described by Tolkien as a small but beautiful and fruitful land, beloved by its inhabitants, the Hobbits. The Shire has rich pastoral farmland, vineyards, and woodland forest. Much of the land was devoted to growing crops. Several smaller rivers flow into the the marshlands along the main river.

The Hobbit's height is between two and four feet tall, with curly hair. They have pointed ears, oversized feet so they never wear shoes. The Hobbits live in underground (earth bermed) homes.
