CNJC Cache to Eagle Series – Helpful
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This is one in a series of caches sponsored by Boy Scout Leaders in Central New Jersey Council BSA that will feature Eagle projects.
Eagle is the highest rank that a boy can earn in scouts. He has to complete at least 21 merit badges (12 specific required ones and 9 others of his choosing). He also has to hold a position of leadership in the troop for at least 6 months, plus plan and carry out a service project that benefits either a religious or community organization. Many of these projects exceed 100 man-hours to complete. The scout has to fund-raise to pay for this also.
There will be a total of 13 caches in the series. The first 12 will be named for the 12 points of the Scout Law: “A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent”. The 13th cache will be a puzzle cache. There is a clue in each of the first 12 that taken together will give you the co-ordinates of the final cache. As you visit each of the caches, be sure to collect the clue in each one so that you can gather the co-ordinates for the final puzzle cache. These all will be coming out during July and August 2010. Completion of the whole series will enable you to purchase a special patch designed for our council to commemorate this series.
This cache is located in Finn Road Park, a recreational park of Union Twp, Hunterdon County.
The Eagle Project was to create two pathways from the main parking lot to a new (at the time) soccer field and mark them with posts identifying the local flora. It was built by Eagle Scout JT of Troop 200. Since then, a small parking lot has been added so the nearer of the two paths is not used extensively any more. To follow the nature trail markers in order, park in the second, larger lot.
Park hours are 9:30 to dusk daily. The terrain is flat, and the path could almost be considered wheel-chair accessible. It is densely wooded; stay on the path; there is a lot of prickers and Poison Ivy!.
You are looking for a camo’ed pill bottle. It is only large enough for a sign-in list, so BYO pen!
FTF to Bear Mom Scouter; no surprise there.
