Geocache Description:

The town of Lightning Ridge can be broken up into two different areas. There is the traditional town with all the attributes of what a country town should have and then there are "The Camps"

Lighning Ridge is a very interesting place, if visiting I would like to offer you an alternative way to enter town from the main highway. Use the waypoint listed below and head towards the cache location.

You are now travelling along one of the "unofficial" roads in an area known as "The Camps". After finding the cache you can continue to follow the road past the airport and into town. A far more interesting introduction to Lightning Ridge than the normal main road into town!

Each one of the "Houses" that you are driving past is on a mining claim and is owned by someone either seeking their fortune or enjoying the peace and sollitude that Lightning Ridge can offer. Each plot of land is known as a "Camp". Unlike other areas of NSW and Australia all of this land is leased on a system called "Western Land Leases" You can learn all about them here.
