Go catch: Due to the footpath 'disappearing' and the impending new railway station work in the area, it is with regret that I feel I should archive this cache. [:(] Once the new station is in place and a possible new footpath in place then I shall see if it's possible to create a new listing along the same idea.

Geocache Description:

Water Eaton Grain Silo / Park & Ride

The nearby grain silo was built by the Ministry of Food in 1940 next to the Oxford - Bicester railway line. Its purpose was to stockpile grain during wartime. At the same time a siding was built on the south side of the former halt.

The silo has been disused since the 1980's but remains a landmark visible over a wide area.

In the 2000's Oxfordshire County Council opened a Park and ride site just south of the grain silo. Parking here is free!

In January 2009 Chiltern Railways announced plans to open a new Water Eaton Parkway railway station on the site of the former halt. Water Eaton Parkway would serve Kidlington and north Oxford.

The footpath you will be travelling on goes between Water Eaton lane (Gosford) to the North and Jordan Hill to the South. If you decide to travel in from the North please take extreme care, as you will need to cross the very busy A34 dual carriageway and there are no bridges or tunnels!

For those thinking this can be a quick cache-n-dash, forget it. Although you are able to park within about 150m of cache site, you will need to walk approx 2 miles to actually get there and back.
