Geocache Description:

Requires a 4WD or high clearance vehicle and at least 12 miles of hiking round trip. An overnight stay is a bonus!

This cache is at Reavis Ranch in the Superstitions Wilderness area. It is not accessible by vehicle. It can be approached from the north from Reavis Trail Head which is 30 miles north of Apache Junction on SR 88. The 2.8 mile drive to the trail head will probably require a high clearance vehicle. The hike in from this trailhead is 9 miles with an elevation change of 2160 feet.

Reavis Ranch can be approached from the south from the Rogers Trough trailhead. From US60 two miles east of Florence Junctionon, drive north on dirt roads for 18 miles. A 4WD vehicle is required. The hike to Reavis Ranch from this trailhead is 6 miles with an elevation change of 1920 feet.

Both approaches are described in Hiker's Guide to the Superstition Wilderness by Carlson and Stewart. Trips 44 and 45 respectively. The book, On the Arizona Trail, describes the trip from Rogers Trough as well (trip 18-A).

A web search may also turn up trip descriptions of these hikes.

The cache is in an orange and yellow tin box about 4 inches square by 3 inches deep. If you can, bring a new plastic bag to put the box in and maybe new ziplocks for the contents.

This is an absolutely beautiful area, enjoy! I was snowed and rained on (overnight lows in the low 20's in December)and later saw bear tracks in the snow when I placed the cache so be prepared for the elements! Take lots of water too in all seasons and be prepared for heat in the warmer months. Good Luck!
