[Note 14/12/16 - A section of the track has been taped off with hazard warnings about asbestos contamination. I have not disabled the cache as all the waypoints are accessible, just the riverside bushwalk connection between Stage 2 and 3 is closed - to avoid the closed section of track requires a large detour by road which detracts from the overall experience. Stages 1 & 2 can be accessed from Epping Road just to the north of the apartments. Everything else can be accessed by rejoining the track from Orion Road / Mars Road / Lloyd Rees Drive. Asbestosis / mesothelioma is an awful way to die - don't risk the rather halfheartedly taped-off track. Update 17/07/21 - Track still closed. Also, connecting tracks in disrepair - watch your step.]
The three stages on the walk take you to places where the Lane Cove River provides: food for sustenance, water for industry and tranquility for the soul. But really that's just an excuse for taking you on a pleasant walk through some nice bushland with varied terrain and some interesting locations.
The listed coordinates are the start point (nothing hidden here), which is a set of steps that go down into the bush. There is parking a little further down the road at the athletic ground on Mowbray Road. There's a bus stop very close. There's also a good cycle path along this stretch of Epping Road. Follow the track from the stairs - if you take the first side path down to the river it's a more pleasant walk.
At each of the three stages there is an object with a pair of numbers on it. The first number of each pair gives the decimal minutes of the Southing and the second of each pair those for the Easting.
- At WP1 you will find A,B
- At WP2 you will find C,D
- At WP3 you will find E,F
These numbers give the coordinates thus:
- The Southing is 33° 48.ACE'
- The Easting is 151° 8.BDF'
The cache is quite small. It has a log and a pencil and will take geocoins, small items etc. Please take care to put it back as you found it as this is important for the camouflage.
