Crocodile rock Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is located on the road to Lake Argyle, just near some fascinating Aboriginal artworks.
The guide books for this region refer to significant art sites along Parker Rd on the way to Lake Argyle. However you will see no signs directing you to the sites. The cache is near one of these special places.
You will find a small rocky outcrop with a series of interconnected caves. The largest cave includes a life sized ochre painting of a crocodile. Given the number of freshwater crocs you see near here you can understand the importance of the crocs as a reliable source of food.
The floors of the caves are polished after centuries of use. You will see fire places and on the outside the holes where the smoke was vented. Grooved and smoothed rocks from sharpening and grinding are easily spotted. Inside the caves is beautifully cool even on a hot day.
There is a sign saying to respect the irrereplacable art works but cachers need no reminder of this. The mint tin cache is hidden among some rocks next to the car park just near the path to the first cave.
Enjoy this special place.
