Beautiful but strenuous hike in the Smoky Mountains. Located off of the Roaring Fork Motor Trail.
This is a somewhat strenuous hike that will have some very beautiful scenery. Many different types of wildlife can be seen from wild turkey to deer and even an occassional bear. You should familiarize yourself with the proper conduct should you encounter a bear in the wild before making this hike.
From April 1 until November 30, this hike can be as short as 1.2 miles if you park at the Grotto Falls Trailhead. From December 1 until March 31 the hike can be as far as 3.5 miles if you park at the Rainbow Falls Trailhead. From here you would want to take the Rainbow Falls Trail for 0.1 mile and take a left and follow the signs to Trillium Gap Trail. The Roaring Fork Motor Trail is closed from December 1 until April 1 of every year.
Personally I feel that this cache is one that should be made with a partner unless you are an experienced hiker just for the safety factor.
Don't forget to pack some water and a light lunch. There is a nice place to have it at the cache sight. Enjoy this hike, you are about to experience some of nature's true beauty!
When you're standing under the falls (literally) you've found it. To prove it email me and tell me what is on the sign at the falls. Please do not post it here for others to see.
**** It appears that the sign has come up missing on this cache. Just log in as you find the cache describing a little of what you saw. We'll know if you were there or not. Feel free to include pics if you wish. ****
