The Roblin Homestead Multi-Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
There is no cache container to find at the posted coordinates. Instead, there is an historical plaque. In order to calculate the final coordinates for the cache, you will have to read this plaque and answer the questions below.
Being a bit of a history buff, I find it difficult, if not impossible, to pass a historical plaque (a habit that sometimes drive Mrs. pc10947 to distraction!). There is a sign on County Road 49 in Prince Edward County indicating that there is a historical plaque just off County Road 49 on Fish Lake Road. For years, I searched and searched to find this plaque, but was unable to do so. One day while trying to find this plaque, I happened to meet a local resident. I asked him if he knew where the plaque was, and he directed me to it. The plaque was hidden by surrounding bushes, and although it is visible from the road if you know it's there, one could easily drive past without noticing it, as evidenced by my own numerous, fruitless searches.
As mentioned above, there is no cache container to find at the posted coordinates. This is because the historical plaque appears to be on or near private property, with a private residence close by. Also, I know some over-eager cachers looking to boost their numbers might simply make the grab, and not take the time to read the plaque. The plaque is clearly visible and readable from the road. OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE HOMEOWNER, NO NIGHT-TIME CACHING, PLEASE!
The cache is at:
N 44° 07.ABC
W 077° 0W.XYZ
In order to calculate the final coordinates, read the plaque and answer the following questions.
If A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, ETC., then:
A - the sixth letter in the third word in the first line of the bio (not the name wich appears at the top of the plaque);
B - the last letter of the first name of the person's name at the top of the plaque;
C - the first letter of the second word in the name of the town this person moved to in 1877;
W - the second last letter in the name of the group this person joined in 1896;
X - the last letter in the name of the province this person served as premier;
Y - the second letter in the surname of the person he succeeded in 1900;
Z - the fifth letter in the verb in the last sentence on the plaque.
Please take the time to read the plauque, and learn some more about our local history. Happy caching!
