Geocache Description:

The cache was hidden in the park of Nagaoka-gu Palace Daigokuden Remains.

Nagaoka-kyo was once the capital of Japan and the city region was in the present Nagaokakyo City, Muko City, and Nishikyo ward of Kyoto City. In 784 A.D. Emperor Kammu relocated the capital from Heijo-kyo (Nara) in order to exclude Buddhism Temple's intervention in the government. However, in 785, The Chief Officer of City Development was assassinated by the anti capital relocation group. The emperor's younger brother Prince Sawara was criminalized because he was a member of the group, and died on the way to be exiled to Awaji Island.
After this affair, the city was attacked by drought and plague, and a member of imperial family was dead. These were thought that the result of curse of Prince Sawara, and the emperor performed a ritual for calm the soul of the prince. However, a flood attacked the city. The emperor was afraid to be thought that he did not have a power of removing the curse, And moved the capital again to Heian-kyo (present Kyoto City). Nagaoka-kyo was a capital while only 10 years.

The place that the cache is located is called Daigokuden, which was the central place of government and state affairs were performed. Now the place was maintained as a park.

キャッシュは長岡宮大極殿跡に隠されています。
長岡京はかつての日本の首都であり、その領域は長岡京市、向日市、京都市西京区に含まれました。784年、仏教勢力の政治介入を嫌った桓武天皇は、都を平城京から長岡京に移しました。しかし造長岡宮使である藤原種継が遷都反対勢力に暗殺されます。それに関わったとされる皇太弟早良親王が流刑に処され、旅の途中で死亡しました。その後、長岡京は干ばつと疫病に襲われ、皇族からも犠牲者が出ました。これを早良親王の呪いであると考えて霊を鎮める儀式を行うも、都は洪水による被害を受けます。祟りを払拭する力がないと批判されることを恐れた天皇は、建設開始からわずか10年で都を平安京に移しました。
キャッシュの設置されている場所は大極殿といい、長岡宮のなかで政務の行われる場所でした。現在は公園として整備されています。
