Geocache Description:

There is a bridge named "Ichimon-bashi" crossing Obatagawa river going on the border between Muko City and Nagaokakyo City. The cache is hidden at the Muko City side of the bridge.

This bridge has been the important point of the traffic since when it was built in Edo era, because it is on Saigoku Kaido highway. But Obatagawa river was famous that it was frequently flooded and washed away the bridge. So the Government decided to correct the fee for crossing the bridge. It cost "1 mon" in old Japanese currency (estimated about 1/3 USD in present currency), this is the reason that the bridge was named "Ichi (1) mon bashi".
Now you can cross the bridge for free and the rever rarely floods because it is well controlled.

向日市と長岡京市の境を流れる小畑川に、一文橋という橋がかかっています。キャッシュはその向日市側に設置されています。
江戸時代に掛けられたこの橋は西国街道のルート上にあり、重要な交通路でした。しかし小畑川は暴れ川として有名で、雨が続くと氾濫し、そのたびに橋は押し流されました。そのため、橋の架け替え費用とするため、通行者から一文の通行費を徴収するようになりました。これがこの橋の名の由来です。
現在は通行費は徴収されていません。また小畑川も治水が進み、穏やかな流れとなっています。
