Le lavoir de Villemurlin.
Un lavoir est un bassin public alimenté en eau détournée d'une source ou d'un cours d'eau, où les lavandières rinçaient le linge après l'avoir lavé, en général chez elles.
Le bord du lavoir comporte une pierre inclinée. La lavandière, à genoux, jette le linge dans l'eau, le tord en le pliant plusieurs fois, et le bat avec un battoir en bois afin de l'essorer le plus possible.
Certains étaient équipés de cheminées pour produire la cendre nécessaire au blanchiment. L'utilisation des lavoirs a été progressivement abandonnée au XXe siècle.

The laundry of Villemurlin.
A wash basin is a public supply of water diverted from a spring or a stream, where the washer rinsed the clothes after washing, usually home.
