Geocache Description:

You are looking for a smaller Ammo Box hidden in the rocks. I set the terrain at 3 because you will need drive on a gravel road for several miles. This is a public access road that runs along the Deschutes River. It gains access to the several Camp Ground, rafting launches as well as fishing that are on BLM land.

Every year Venture Crew 351 does a raft trip down the Deschutes River. They need transportation to the river as well as food along the way. This is where I come in, I pull the raft trailer and bring along some of the supplies as well as help cook, etc. After we portage them around Shears Falls, we head down to Jones Canyon Camp Ground and set up camp for the night. This gives me ample time while they are rafting to go geocaching and hunting benchmarks. With the lack of caches in the area and a lot of the benchmarks are on the other side of the river, I decided the area needed a few caches.

You can drive with in a few hundred feet of the cache and hike the rest. As always when you are east of the mountains, watch for SNAKES with RATTLES. I don’t see them to often, but I have seen them. Enjoy, be careful, and have fun.
