Husavik: the whale museum
Husavik was the northernmost point
of our Islandtour. Like a lot of other tourists we were there for
the Whales. So they changed one part of the harbour in a visitor
meeting place. Lots of nice, small restaurants and souvenir
shops......(others would say: trashy). And the wooden boats in the
water wait for the whale hungry people, with their cameras already
turned on.
We saw lots of Puffins and short
before going back a group of playful dolphins. The hot chocolate
and the bakery gave the excursion a touch of cosiness.
Also in this northern region lays
GRENIVIK. Nobody comes to this place for whales. Gernivik is 100 km
away from Husavik and 50 km from Akureyri. Because we had one day
free for us we decided to make a trip high on horse.... better
said: not so high on horse. Without an advance notification we went
to this farm with the noble sounding name POLAR ESTAR. The boss
received us with a friendly Swiss German. Anyway, each of us was
sitting on a horse in less than a hour. The brown horse's name was
Helena and she even hasn't lost her winter coat entirely in July.
Helena “töltet” angelic. (Sorry couldn't find the
english word for “tölten”. This is a gait, which only
the icelandic horses can practise.) So, I fell in love immediately
with this gentle horse. After the three hour trip the boss offered
us hot tee and different sweets... mmmmmh, it was yummy. Really a
insider tip.
