This cache has been archived.

RedGlobe: Thanks again to all that helped cleaning a “small” part of the Apies River but it’s time to close this event and hopefully there will be more CITO’s. To date this was the most attended CITO yet in SA.

Geocache Description:

Please join us on this CITO event cleaning the area east of the bridge over the Apies River starting from the listed Waypoint. With all the Trash flowing down the Apies River from the city, it is a ongoing problem, but we can make a small difference by picking up the trash just before it flows into the Wonderboom Nature Reserve. Yes the complete length of the Apies river is affected and needs cleaning, but we as geo-cachers will never be able to take on this job as it will be a continuous fulltime cleaning process, but with our help we will make the task of Tshwane Parks Management a little easier and give back something to nature and for playing our game in the Tshwane parks.

We have arranged this event from the Joos Becker Caravan Park for any cachers that need accommodation while in Pretoria for this event (Reason for early listing). Please see the forum (visit link) for more info.

We will get together at 09H00 at the given parking waypoint before going thru the gate on the north side of the caravan park and will receive all instructions at the listed waypoint. The parking waypoint is also next to the Lapa that will be used after the cleaning process to relax. You are welcome to use the Lapa area for any persons that will not join us with the physical cleaning process while waiting on your return after the CITO.

What will be provided?

Trash bags will be donated by the Tshwane parks manager. All the trash bags will be placed together and the Tshwane Council will remove them at a later stage.

All the cachers will have free entry to this Caravan Park on this day for the cleanup process. (Just mention at the gate you are a geocacher).

You must bring the following items:

  • Bring your own drinking water, as there is no clean drinking water available.
  • Bring your own gloves.
  • Bring your own snack, as the day might be long.
  • A special stick with a pointy tip is very handy to get trash out of icky places.
  • Water boots or a long stick to retrieve trash on the river banks.
  • Soap and Towels; this is to clean yourself after the event.

After all the trash bags have been collected:

We will get together on site for a group photo with the evidence from the days successes in the background. The Joos Becker Caravan Park has braai facilities at the Lapa that we have permission to use for the cleanup process to relax after the hard day’s efforts. This will form a “bring and braai” just to relax in this area.
