Should be a quick find, a camo-ed 35mm film can about 4' off the ground. Log only bring a pen.
The Old Kaaterskill Railway Cache is hidden along a path just off of Scutt Road. The path follows the old Kaaterskill Railway railbed over to South Lake. You can still see the wooden rail ties along the ground in spots, along with stone culverts, walls, and other remnants along the way.
The Kaaterskill Railroad was built as a three-foot narrow-gauge to extend the Stony Clove & Catskill Mountain to Tannersville, Haines Falls, and Kaaterskill, near North and South Lakes and within a mile of the Catskill Mountain House. The competing Catskill & Tannersville Railroad paralleled the line. With the Stony Clove & Catskill Mountain, the Kaaterskill was taken over by the Ulster & Delaware in 1893, standard gauged in 1899, and abandoned by the New York Central in 1940.
