have the hault-Denger crew co-hosting this year. We will start at
9am through 11am with coffee and donuts. We will provide coffee,
please bring your favorite rolls or donuts to share. Then take the
family out to find many fun temp caches including some 5 star
terrain caches out on the beautiful St Croix river. The permenant 5
star Terrain cache is still out on greenberg Island. If you have
not found them yet the park Safari cache, an earthcache and 2
permenant caches are there to be found. At about 2pm on Saturday we
look for a potluck, we will provide lemonade, water, plates,
utensils. A grill will be going if needed. PLEASE POST WHAT YOU MAY
BE BRINGING.
Attention Boy Scouts. In January the Boy Scouts of America
created a Geocaching Merit Badge. We are working on a Merit badge
program to get you started on your merit badges. There will be 2
merit badge councilors on site. If you are interested in earning
the merit badge please let us know in advance. Please bring a blue
card signed by your scout master
William O'Brien as made up a new pathtag for the event this
year, find caches and earn a pathtag, limited amount. There is
going to be a Voyager Encampment sharing the ground with us. This
is the 25th year they will be at the park.
Voyageur Encampment Step back in history
to the time of the voyageurs. Voyageurs were the “truck
drivers” of the fur trade era. They would travel the rivers
and lakes hauling beaver, mink, muskrat and other animal furs.
These furs would be packaged in 90-pound packs that they hauled
over long portages. Eventually these furs would end up as top hats
and coats to the elite in Europe. These voyageurs were a hearty
bunch with a unique lifestyle which only they could call their own.
Come down to the picnic grounds and view the camp and ask them
questions as the Neebing Brigade and the La Compagnie Brigade
re-enact the 1700’s and make their home at the park for the
weekend. Take a step back in history and learn the life of the
Voyageur!
The MnGCA is going to have an
informational table where we will teach park guests how to geocache
using the parks 18 GPS units. Please sign up to help out at the
table during the 2 days.
