Ma and Pa and the three girls were hiking on one of the trails in Roche-A-Cri State Park. Not too far into their hike, they stopped at a brown marker, where Mary observed, "This sign post has the picture of a hiker on it. Let's see if we can find any more. We'll count this one as number one." As they went down the trail, Carrie sighed, "When will we see another sign? I'm getting tired." "Look, Carrie!" shouted Laura. "I see another brown sign just ahead! That would be a second one. Maybe we can count five, since there are five of us!" So they kept on walking until they had counted a total of five of the brown sign posts.

Not far beyond the fifth brown hiking sign (which they had to look on the back side of to see the hiker), Mary and Laura looked off into the woods to the right of the trail. "What are you girls looking for?" asked Ma and Pa. "Maybe there's a letterbox in there," they replied. Carrie said that she just wanted to sit on that little bench on the side of the trail up ahead, and she also noticed another brown post there. "Come on, Carrie, " said Laura. "That's too far ahead. And besides, that would be sign post #6, and there are only five of us."

Carrie just sat on the bench and said she didn't want to go into the woods, and maybe the letterbox was in a stump right near the trail. "No, Carrie. It's over here a bit, and I think it might be hidden in a big pine tree!" exclaimed Mary, as she started looking under some green-needled branches. The adventurous Laura was already ahead of Mary and Ma in the woods (Pa had stayed back with Carrie), and started looking at the base of every oak tree she could spot until she came to a pair of smaller ones that had some old logs and wood pieces around them below a big arched tree that had snapped off and fallen nearby but not to the ground there. "This would be a perfect spot for a letterbox. Come help me search!" she said.

Who made the letterbox find? Who do you think???!!!
