Geocache Description:

The cache is a small plastic container with lid held on by clasps. There is a logbook and a few items for trading.

Friday afternoons when several hundred people come to pick up groceries from St. Gregory's and and Sunday mornings when there are people coming for services are best avoided when searching for the cache as it will be difficult to locate undetected.
Congrats to theportsf for being FTF.

Potrero Hill gets its name from the Spanish word for "pasture." Originally appearing in records as a land grant in 1835, its proximity to the commercial center of San Francisco ensured that the land didn't remain pastoral for too long, replacing Don Francisco de Haro's goats with warehouses and docks in the flatlands. A series of waves of immigrants settled the hills and labored in the shipyards, most notably during WWII, when many African-Americans moved to the area for work. However, many of the industrial and wholesale uses have also now gone the way of the goats in the age of the internet, leaving Potrero Hill's future land use a politically charged question.
From the cache, you can see the skyscrapers of downtown SF as framed in part by the Anchor Steam Brewery, which has been at this location only since 1979 but is part of a brewing tradition going back more than a century. "California common beer," to use the generic name for this style of brewing, began as an inexpensive working man's drink made by brewers who lacked access to supplies of cold fresh water during the Gold Rush. Across the street stands St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church, which opened its doors here in late 1995 and was inspired architecturally by sources as varied as the movies of Kurosawa and the craft traditions of Ethiopia; if the church is open, take a moment to see the murals inside by local artist Mark Dukes. The immediate neighborhood also hosts restaurants, schools, gym facilities, dance studios, and a park, so there's something for everyone.
