No traipsing through fields, bogs or forest, just a simple roadside cache with parking.
Forss is the most northerly wind farm on mainland UK, it is located on the north coast of Scotland near Thurso and was built in two phases. The project comprises of 6 turbines, two of 1MW rating and four of 1.3MW rating, with an overall installed capacity of 7.2MW. Forss Wind Farm is located on the site of the former US Navy Communications Base. The site was decommissioned in 1992 and remained disused. The first phase of the wind farm, consisting of two turbines, was built in 2003 and further four turbines were erected in 2007. The wind farm will generate enough clean green electricity to meet the needs of approximately 3,500 households per year.
