What is the origin of the expression:
"For Pete's Sake?"
This expression has biblical origins.
It is a polite substitute for more profane expressions.
Peter is one of the apostles and he was later sainted by the church.
In medieval times it was considered sacrilegious to use the Lord's name in vain, so when the need to curse arose, people would say, "For Saint Peter's Sake".
Over time this was shortened to
"For Pete's Sake."
