While camping in Duck Mountain Provincial park, we decided to try putting out some new challenging Geocaches for the more adventurous visitors to the area.
It should be relatively easy to find once you are there, the difficulty rating considers the time, effort, and equipment (a boat) required to get to it.
There is a boat launch at the Pickerel Point campground on the east side of the lake (waypoint provided) where you can also rent a boat of your choice if you don't have your own. As is apparent with the name of the cache, we chose a canoe. Canoe rental rates at the time we placed the cache were $10 per hour, or $50 for the whole day if you wish to explore further.
The cache is about 3KM from the launch point, a leisurely 45 minutes each way by canoe, and less than 3 hours total including a stop on the island and around it on the way back. There are most likely other launch points if you have your own boat as well. This cache may very well be accessible in the wintertime, but I will leave it up to you the geocachers to determine that. Us being new to Saskatchewan, we will be very impressed if someone logs a find by shoe shoeing to it in winter, and we will update the attributes accordingly. Being an ammo can, you could safely poke away through the snow until you find it.
The cache originally contained some information pamphlets provided by the park, a few random swag/trade items and a log book.
Saskatchewan Parks has approved this location, but please limit your activities on the island to the immediate area of the Geocache. Be sure to replace it exactly as you found it, and have fun!
Congratulations to stuffseeker1 for being the first to find!
