Geocache Description:

Having been muggled, this TB hotel requires some new TB tenants! When able, I'll drop some in as I'm able. The cache is not wheelchair accessible.

Accessible by walking in (from the Georgia Shore Road parking lot by the Mill River) or by boat, canoe, or kayak from the lake side.

CAUTION: During early spring, or during high lake levels, the cache is only accessible by boat!

The cache is hidden near the mouth of the Mill River - a perfect place for Travel Bugs to rest their weary bones in a quiet location.

During summer, this is a pretty mosquito friendly place. There's probably plenty of poison ivy around, although I didn't spot any when I placed the cache. So bring your OFF, and at least wear long pants. The trail is not well maintained, and is likely overgrown. Your best bet for navigating to the cache from the land side is to follow the trail on the NORTH SIDE of the Mill River. Then when the trail gets iffy, don't try to bushwhack straight to the cache. Just continue following the river. It'll get easier. As this is a natural area, please try not to trample the vegetation too much. The trail is frog-laden in the summer as well, so step lightly. If you take time to enjoy the scenery, you'll come across plenty of woodsy plants and flowers. With any luck, you'll see or hear wood ducks, mallards, and/or loons! In winter, it's not a good idea to try to walk down the frozen river, as the ice will be very thin in spots.

Conserved in 2003, Mill River Falls Natural Area is a 35 acre public access preserve encompassing the mouth of Mill River and the surrounding wetland complex. Enjoy a short hike down to an impressive waterfall which flows over a ledge of weathered stone into pools below. Below the waterfall Mill River flows over rapids, through pools, and past old oxbows as it divides and meanders across the flat, ancient delta to its final destination, Lake Champlain. This natural area was donated to the Lake Champlain Land Trust by Anna Neville and her family. The conservation project was completed in partnership with the Georgia Conservation Commission.

When you go: Mill River Falls is perfect for picnicking, fishing, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Notice the unique wetland communities along the trails. There are no facilities. Open dawn to dusk.
