Geocache Description:

This is a micro (match container) planted around the disk golf course at Pine Woods Park in North Tonawanda, NY. Muggles abound in this park so stealth is a MUST. The cache only has room for a log, so bring a pen.

Pine Woods Park is a tranquil wooded park located in the middle of North Tonawanda. Originally know as Sweeney’s Grove or Sweeney’s Park, this land was at one time the center of James Sweeney Thompson’s real estate development. There was a movement by the Women’s Civic Club in the early half of the 1920’s to preserve this area’s natural splendor as a park for all to enjoy. A champion of this movement was Mrs. Carrie Root, the wife of a prominent attorney of the day. The Root family lived on Goundry Street nearer to the park’s original boundary. The movement was successful in seeing an ordinance passed that forever protects this land from development and preserves Sweeney Park (now Pine Woods Park) for future generations. The pillars at the corner of Niagara and Pine Woods Drive commemorate these events.

Today you can enjoy sheltered picnic areas, a playground, wooded trails and 9 hole disk golf course. We have enjoyed this little treasure in the middle of NT and hope you will too.

This micro is planted long the Disk Golf course which traverses the park. You might want to bring your disks along and take a shot at this nice little par 3 course while you search for the cache. The first hole tees off near the corner of Schenck and Fassett (NE corner of the park).

Parking:
There is a parking lot on Fassett across from the Park.
